Edmund Burns was born on October 18, 1858, in Campbelltown (probably Hectorville). His parents were John Burns, a laborer and market gardener from Limerick, and Mary Callaghan, a domestic servant from Effin, Limerick. He was their first child and was named after his paternal grandfather. Edmund was baptized in Adelaide by Fr. Michael Ryan on October 18, 1858 and his godparents were Mary's brother Patrick and John's sister Ellen. Unfortunately, he did not survive beyond four months. He died on February 5, 1859, likely in Hectorville. The whereabouts of his grave are unknown.
