Very little is known about Ellen Callaghan.  She was the fourth child of John Callaghan and Nora Carroll.  She was born about 1840 in either Kilbreedy Minor or Effin (depending on whether her mother Nora gave birth in her own home or at her mother's), County Limerick, Ireland.  She was raised in Kilbreedy Minor until the family was evicted in 1845.  During the Great Famine, the Callaghans moved to Effin to live with Nora's family, the Carrolls.  Nora died sometime before 1858.  Along with the rest of her family, Ellen emigrated to Adelaide, South Australia, on the Bee in 1858.  It is known that she worked as a domestic servant in Adelaide, but that is all that is known.    It is unknown where and when she died, if she ever married or if she had children.
